Tyrolean Cheese Casserole

with potatoes and pasta, garished with herbs

2 Servings

There is one thing I always have to take home from a vacation in Austria – real Tyrolean Cheese.

Having a very strong, spicy version of this cheese as a base, I created a casserole recipe this weekend.

You need:

300 g Potatoes

150 g Pasta (dry)

150 g Tyrolean Cheese

200 g Cream Cheese

100 g Plain Yogurt

1/2 Onion

Mixed Herbs, Salt, Pepper

Olive Oil

1 TSP Sugar

Here’s how to do it:

First, bring two pots of water to boil to cook the pasta and potatoes separately. Then cut the potatoes into thin slices and grate the tyrolean cheese. Chop the herbs and mix them with potatoes, pasta and 100 g of the grated cheese.

Season with salt and pepper and put everything into a large casserole dish. Sprinkle the remaining 50 g cheese over the casserole.

Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the casserole for 15-20 minutes. While it is still in the oven, heat some olive oil in a pan and fry the onions. When they are almost done, add the to caramelize them. Spread the onions on top of your casserole when you take it out of the oven.

The casserole always reminds me of a break during a long hiking tour. Another big advantage is that the casserole is super easy and quick to prepare. Leave us feedback on how you liked it.
